UP PCS J Syllabus has been released by the UPPSC on its official website along with the notification. In this article, we are talking about the syllabus and exam pattern of UPPSC J exam for the post of U.P. Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Exam.

UP PCS J Exam Pattern

  • There shall be three stages of Competitive Examination Viz.
  • Preliminary Examination (Objective and Multiple Choice Type)
  • Main Examination (Written Conventional Type) and
  • Viva-voce (Personality Test).

PCS J syllabus for Prelims consists of two papers and are Objective and Multiple Choice Type in nature. The first paper is the General Knowledge paper while the second one is the Law paper. On the other hand, the Mains syllabus of UP PCS J is descriptive in nature consisting of a total of 6 papers.

Syllabus for U.P. Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Preliminary Examination

Paper-I : General Knowledge

  • Time : 2 hours
  • Maximum Marks : 150

This paper may include questions based on topics relating to

  1. History of India and Indian Culture,
  2. Geography of India,
  3. Indian Polity,
  4. Current National Issues and topics of Social relevance including sensitivity to persons with disabilities, senior citizens and offences on women and children with special references to the salient features of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016,
  5. Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007,
  6. Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961,
  7. Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005,
  8. Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal)Act, 2013,
  9. Pre-Conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994,
  10. Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971,
  11. Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition)Act, 1986,
  12. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,
  13. India and the world,
  14. Indian Economy,
  15. International Affairs and Institutions and development in the field of Science and Technology,
  16. Communications and Space.

The nature and standards of questions in this paper will be such that a well educated person will be able to answer them without any specialized study.

Paper-II : Law

  • Time : 2 hours
  • Maximum Marks : 300

This paper will include day to day happenings around India and the world, particularly in Legal spheres, Acts and laws.

  1. Jurisprudence
  2. International Organisations
  3. Current International Affairs
  4. Indian Constitution
  5. Transfer of Property Act
  6. Indian Evidence Act
  7. Indian Penal Code
  8. Civil Procedure Code
  9. Criminal Procedure Code
  10. Law of Contract

Syllabus for U.P. Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Main Examination (Written Examination)

The candidates will have a choice to answer General Knowledge and Law papers either in Hindi or in English. The Examination shall include the following Subjects:-

Paper No.: 1 – General Knowledge | Maximum Marks : 300

Paper No.2 – English Language :-

This paper will be of 100 marks. It shall comprise three questions as specified below:-

  1. Essay – 50 marks
  2. Precis writing – 30 marks
  3. Translation of passage from Hindi to English – 20 marks

Paper No. 3 – Hindi Language :-

This paper will be of 100 marks. It shall comprise three questions as specified below:-

  1. Essay : 50 marks
  2. Precis writing : 30 marks
  3. Translation of passage form English to Hindi : 20 marks

Paper No. 4 – Law-I (Substantive Law) :-

This paper will be of 200 marks. The question set will be restricted to the field covered by

The law of contracts, the law of Partnership, the law concerning easements and torts, the Law relating to transfer of property including the principles of equity, specifically applicable thereto, the principal of Equity with special reference to the Law of trust and specific relief, Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law, and Constitutional Law. There shall be questions of 50 marks in relation to Constitutional Law alone.

Paper No. 5 – Law-II (Procedure and Evidence) :-

This paper will be of 200 marks.
Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-the law of evidence, the Criminal Procedure Code and Code of Civil Procedure, including the principles of pleading. The question set will relate mainly to practical matters such as the framing of charges and issues the methods of dealing with the evidence of witnesses the writing of judgment and the conduct of cases generally but will not be restricted to them.

Paper No. 6 – Law-III (Penal, Revenue and Local Laws) :-

This paper will be of 200 marks. Questions pertaining to Penal Laws will be of 50 marks, whereas, that of Revenue and Local Laws will be of 150 marks.

Questions set will be restricted to the field covered by-Indian Penal Code, Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006, Uttar Pradesh Urban Building (Regulation of Letting, Rent and Eviction) Act, 1972, the Uttar Pradesh Regulation of Urban Premises Tenancy Act, 2021, Uttar Pradesh Municipalities Act, U.P. Panchayat Raj Act, U.P. Consolidation of Holdings Act, Uttar Pradesh Urban (Planning and Development) Act 1973, together with rules framed under the aforesaid Acts. Answer to the questions of Local Laws will be compulsory.

Interview :

The interview will be of 100 marks. The suitability of candidates for employment in the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service will be tested with reference to his merit giving due regard to his ability character, personality and physique.
